That is a hard question to answer :) Depends what you will do there. We loved the jungle. We loved that you can get very good service. We did not love the beach & snorkeling -- it was only OK. There are also a lot of adventure tours there -- cave tubing, ziplining etc. You an also go to Tikal very easily for a day or two days and one night. All of those things I recommend. Although the boys have to be a bit older if you want to do different adventure tours.
I think one might have a good time on the beach there as well but for good snorkeling one has to go to one of the atolls and it was too expensive for us since we were with parents. Or one can go to Placenta or some other place where there is no snorkeling. But it was not an option for us since R. wanted to snorkel & dive.
Belize often is very cheap and easy to get to. If this is indeed the case for you, then I would certainly consider.
